prepare for the journey

be deliberate:
  • know what is really important
  • avoid the slavery of the urgent
  • do the important things on a daily, weekly, monthly or annual cycle
  • build capability – in yourself and others
  • pursue the path of resistance
  • take small bites of big problems
  • time to plan is important – but don’t overdo it
  • invest in important relationships (spouse, children, friends, team)

finding time:
  • do a time audit for a day
  • eliminate unplanned trivia
  • cut out random TV/computer games
  • put boundaries around time (eg. one hour for email)
  • handle things once
  • become aware of attention and distractions and what is causing them
  • say no at least three times a day … nicely
  • be ruthless in cutting out non-core activities
