become a shaper of circumstances:
  • create a vision for everything
  • make the visions dynamic, loud and clear
  • imagine the role and try and put it on
  • act as-if the vision has come about
  • don’t speak as a victim of circumstances
  • identify real objectives behind goals
  • look for positives and best alternative outcomes
  • go with the flow
  • regularly update your vision

show presence:
  • feel confident that you look good
  • stand back from the need to be liked/appreciated/accepted
  • consider posture, voice and body language - appropriate to your aspirations
  • be decisive - even if your decision is to delay making a decision
  • give credit liberally
  • look for a principled position rather than me-centred.
  • speak clearly - use words carefully and then stop.
  • slow down, don’t panic, don’t run !
  • give people focused attention
  • build a dream team

  • stick to principles, especially when under pressure

  • create an emotional connection with your audience
  • plan and model the desired outcome
  • presentation slides – simple illustration only
  • stand up – speak up – shut up
  • always seek interaction
  • never apologise in a talk (almost)
